Prasad Seva at Shri Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple
The Shri Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple is an ancient and renowned Shiva shrine located in the Kankhal area of Haridwar. It is a site of immense reverence, deeply connected to the mythological legend of Lord Shiva, Mata Sati, and King Daksha. Devotees from across the country visit this temple to offer prayers, perform worship, and partake in the Prasad (sanctified offering) service.
Mythological Legend / Belief
According to religious belief, this is the sacred site where King Daksha organized a grand Yajna(ritual sacrifice) but failed to show respect to Lord Shiva, the husband of Mata Sati. Unable to bear the insult to her husband, Mata Sati sacrificed her body in the Yogagni (sacrificial fire of yogic power) right here. Upon hearing this news, Lord Shiva was consumed by rage, and the entire universe trembled at his furious form. It is said that it was at this very spot that Lord Shiva severed King Daksha's head from his body. Later, at the behest of the gods, Lord Shiva’s anger subsided, and he restored King Daksha to life by affixing a goat's head to his body. Consequently, this site is regarded as a magnificent symbol of Shiva’s fierce justice, compassion, and divine power.
